Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 packet of yeast (2-1/4 tsp)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 5 cup flour
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 cup water
- poppy seeds
Instructions:
- Mix yeast and sugar in a small glass bowl; stir in warm water
- Let sit for 20 minutes, or until risen to top of container
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, oil and salt
- Add risen yeast and 1 cup of water to flour mixture
- Mix well and test sticky-ness; add flour/water accordingly; you should be able to stick your finger in the dough without it sticking
- Roll dough into a ball; let it sit covered with a towel for 3 hours
- After 3 hours, roll dough into a long narrow log like shape, fold into a U, and braid tightly
- After braided, let it sit for 15 minutes covered
- Brush with egg and drizzle with poppy seeds
- Bake at 275 for 30 minutes, then 350 for 15 minutes
